Tracking & attribution
Your website, a postcard, and a paid ad should not disappear into the same unexplained phone total. Assign numbers around the way you market, then keep each number connected to the campaign and team it serves.

Know which account and campaign a number belongs to. Give numbers useful names so your team can recognize their purpose without memorizing digits.
A number is the entry point, not the whole workflow. Choose how calls are handled, then review activity before changing or retiring a campaign.

Make an informed choice
A tracking number gives a campaign an identifiable phone entry point. Its assignment needs to stay understandable after launch: which business owns it, where it appears, which team answers, and whether older advertising can still generate calls. Lead Source organizes numbers by account and campaign so that inventory remains connected to the call workflow.
Choose a US local or toll-free number around the audience and placement. Local inventory depends on carrier availability; an area code alone does not prove where a caller lives. Budget for number rental separately from minutes and the platform subscription. A website attribution pool also needs inventory, so include it when estimating the total number count.
| Placement | Assignment to keep | Before changing the number |
|---|---|---|
| Printed mailer | Campaign, distribution area, and mailing date | Check whether copies can still produce responses |
| Location-specific promotion | Branch, campaign, and receiving route | Check local hours and the fallback destination |
| Website number pool | Website and pool purpose | Review visitor overlap and attribution behavior |
If an old postcard and a new promotion use the same number, the dialed number alone cannot distinguish them. Keep the old assignment active while responses remain plausible, or document the ambiguity in your analysis. A clean inventory is more useful than assuming every call belongs to the newest campaign using that number.
Before moving an existing business number, inventory every place it appears and confirm the carrier's transfer process. Test the new route before calling the move complete. Campaign numbers can forward to your existing receiving team, so measuring an additional channel does not automatically require moving the business's established public line.

Phone numbers are billed separately from the platform plan. The pricing page lists local and toll-free rates, including lower usage rates on higher plans.
Lead Source is for United States calling and texting. The product checks that saved and dialed phone numbers meet that requirement.
