### Five labels. A clearer traffic source.

UTM parameters are campaign labels added to a destination URL. Analytics tools can use them to describe where a visit came from. This builder asks for source, medium, and campaign, with optional content and term labels. It creates a link; it does not install analytics or verify that your destination records the parameters.

Source The origin of the traffic, such as a newsletter, advertising platform, or partner. Keep the same spelling and capitalization across related links.

Medium The type of channel, such as email or cpc. Agree the vocabulary with whoever maintains your analytics reports.

Campaign The shared name for an initiative. Use a name people can recognize later without including personal information.

Content An optional way to distinguish placements or creative versions, such as header versus footer in the same email.

Term An optional manual keyword label. It does not automatically capture the search query a visitor typed.

02

### Keep your existing URL intact.

The builder preserves the destination path, unrelated query parameters, and the fragment after the # character. It replaces existing source, medium, campaign, content, and term UTM parameters instead of adding duplicates. Leaving an optional field empty removes the corresponding old tag.

Spaces and special characters in campaign values are encoded as query data. The builder retains the capitalization you enter, because changing a campaign name silently can split or mislabel reporting. Use a shared naming convention and test the completed URL through the same redirects a visitor will encounter.

A useful boundary
Campaign tags describe a website visit. They do not, by themselves, connect a later phone call to that visit. Website call attribution requires an appropriate tracking setup.

03

### Use campaign tags where they answer a real question.

- 01

#### Name the initiative

Choose one source, medium, and campaign convention before your team creates links.

- 02

#### Build and test

Copy the URL, check its destination, and confirm your analytics setup receives the expected labels.

- 03

#### Review the journey

Check redirects, consent settings, and attribution configuration. Preserve supported advertising click identifiers where required.

- 04

#### Connect to outcomes

Evaluate visits alongside qualified inquiries and customers. A correctly tagged link is the start of measurement, not proof of a sale.

Frequently asked questions

### A few more things, explained.

Explore the details. Open a question for the answer.

What does this free campaign URL builder create? +

It creates a website URL with campaign source, medium, and campaign tags, plus optional content and term tags. It handles encoding and lets you copy the completed URL.

Do I need an account to use this UTM builder? +

No. The builder is available without signing in, providing an email address, or opening a Lead Source account.

Which fields are required by this campaign link tool? +

Enter a complete destination URL, source, medium, and campaign name. Link variation and search term labels are optional.

What happens to existing UTM tags in my destination URL? +

The builder replaces existing source, medium, campaign, content, and term tags, including duplicate or differently capitalized versions. Other parameters remain in the URL.

Does leaving an optional UTM field blank keep its old value? +

No. A blank content or term field removes that tag from the destination URL. This prevents an old campaign label from accidentally carrying into the new link.

Will the URL builder preserve a section link after a hash character? +

Yes. A destination fragment such as #contact remains after the generated query string. Test that the destination page still has the intended section.

Can campaign labels contain spaces or punctuation? +

Yes. The builder encodes those characters as query data. Consistent short labels are still easier for your team to compare in reports.

Does the campaign builder change uppercase labels to lowercase? +

No. It preserves your entered capitalization. Agree a naming convention because analytics reporting can distinguish values that differ only by case.

Does this tool shorten my campaign link? +

No. It creates a complete destination URL with visible campaign parameters. It does not use a redirect service or generate a shortened address.

Can I use this builder for Google Ads auto-tagging? +

This is a manual campaign tag builder. It does not create advertising click identifiers or configure auto-tagging. Review your advertising and analytics setup before combining methods.

Does the generated link automatically track phone calls? +

No. The tags describe website traffic. Connecting a phone call to that visit requires an appropriate website call attribution setup and a review of its limitations.

Are the URLs entered into this builder sent to Lead Source? +

The tool generates links in your browser and does not submit or save the field values. Reloading restores the fictional example.

Why does this builder reject a destination URL? +

It requires a complete http:// or https:// address without embedded login details, spaces, or control characters. The destination may be up to 2,048 characters long.

What should I do if the Copy campaign URL button cannot access the clipboard? +

The tool selects the generated URL and shows an inline message. Use your device's normal copy command to copy the selected text.

Should I put customer details into a UTM campaign label? +

No. Campaign labels may appear in URLs, analytics, logs, and shared links. Use descriptive campaign names rather than names, phone numbers, or other personal information.
